Sunflowers & Butterflies…
The COVID 19 pandemic has impacted people in different ways. My family and I are no exception, although we are fortunate to have not had our health impacted. Prior to four months ago I would not have thought I would have the blessing to energize like I have during this time. The Spring season is my favorite time of year and the pandemic enforced slow down allowed me to enjoy this time of renewal and growth with my family. This free time had us looking around the yard and seeing things we needed to address. Spring, for me brings a sense of hope and rebirth and what better way to celebrate this then by getting my hands dirty and feeling the sunshine on my face. There were many outside projects to do and what better way to wipe away some of the blues from this quarantine we found ourselves in.
Kerry’s Garden is one of the gardens I decided to focus on. As I am writing this, it is actually 8 years to the day that my sister has passed. To devote time and care to this little garden this Spring was very therapeutic. Kerry loved nature. I have many memories of her a a child “rescuing” birds, kittens, turtles, anything really. She loved sunflowers and for me I correlate the butterfly with her. In this garden behind our barn I decided to grow sunflowers and butterfly attracting flowers in honor of her. It was really nice planting everything from seed and bulbs and watching them sprout and bloom. This garden of Sunshine proved to be a great source of faith and hope this Spring during time when it was greatly needed. I like to think Kerry would be pretty pleased with how it tuned out, I know I am.
